HOWARD LORING’S three volumes on the ELASTIC LIMIT of TIME, two Novels and a compilation of Short Stories, are each written in EPIC FABLE form.
Given FABLES are usually defined as unassuming tales conveying a moral while EPICS are larger stories that dwell on internal changes leading to personal growth, these engaging TIME TRAVEL books are plainly written but soon unfold to encompass universal human themes. As in any FABLE, the narrative style is simplistic, yet the action is layered with fast-paced sequences often presented through flashback and proceeding from different points of view. As in any EPIC, characters evolve as a result of their quests, exploring collective human ideals and concepts. All must grapple with difficult choices. Hard decisions, forced by circumstances yield unforeseen consequences, challenges that must be met and overcome. Each TIME TRAVELING ADVENTURE is self-contained needing no backstory and so they can be read in any order, yet all connect and explain each other. The narrative is dialogue driven having little description, yet is sweeping in scope and direction, often employing HISTORICAL FIGURES and DOCUMENTED SITUATIONS, providing exacting insights into differing time periods. Utilized in each EPIC FABLE, the term ELASTIC LIMIT is technical jargon dealing with TIME DISTORTION, but the phrase is also a metaphor for the reader’s imagination. As Literature, EPIC FABLES on the ELASTIC LIMIT of TIME utilize CLASSICAL MYTH by dealing with relationships between basic human archetypical characters. They are also technically FOLKLORE, a story based on real characters, and LEGEND, traditionally considered stylized explanations of actual historic events. The novel, BEYOND THE ELASTIC LIMIT, details the Time Traveling hardware and theory employed in every volume, while the novel, PIERCING THE ELASTIC LIMIT, shows how the protocol can be used to alter HISTORY. The compilation of short stories, TALES OF THE ELASTIC LIMIT, contains examples of how HISTORY was indeed successfully changed. Although typically defined as Science Fiction and/or Fantasy, EPIC FABLES on the ELASTIC LIMIT of TIME defy conventional classification. Each embrace similar diverse genres: Mystery, Detective Tale, Historical Fiction, Adventure Saga and Love Story. |
